The project
Culturespaces will open the first permanent exhibition center for immersive art in Hamburg in 2024. The art center will be located in the new Westfield Hamburg Überseequartier in HafenCity.
As in all of its other locations, Culturespaces looked for a place in Hamburg that carried the city's DNA and history - and found it in Überseequartier in HafenCity: With its proximity to the harbor and the water, the quarter represents the city's maritime identity like no other.
The undulating design of the facade and the reconstruction of a ship's bow in the building's main hall pick up on maritime themes architecturally and are intended to invite visitors to immerse themselves in the history of the transatlantic cruise lines from Hamburg to the world. To blend in with the surrounding architecture, the facade is clad in brick; golden design elements add special accents.
"Überseequartier in HafenCity is the best location of all our venues in Europe so far: a world of experience in its own right, within walking distance of the city center, located in a growing neighborhood and on the waterfront, and with the planned new cruise terminal, a place that is attractive not only for the people of Hamburg but also for tourists. We are pleased to contribute to the further development of this vibrant part of Hamburg with Port des Lumières."
